Thuja occidentalis Smaragd

Since its introduction almost 60 years ago, Thuja Smaragd (smah RAHG) has been a slowly rising star worldwide. Also known as Thuja “Emerald” or “Emerald Gem” this trouble free conifer grows into a beautiful almost glossy rich green column, requiring no trimming to look neat and tidy all year round.

Plant Care

Smaragd can be planted in almost any well-drained soil type and requires little if any maintenance. Trim lightly once a year if planted as a hedge. Remember to maintain a pyramidal shape to avoid the plant becoming open or bare a the base.

Application

Use Smaragd s a columnar accent or formal hedge. Plant as markers or 'posts' in narrow spaces or in pots and planters.

History

Famous now as a modern rose breeder, D T Poulsen Nurseries in Denmark brought Thuja Smaragd to the world in the 1950s. As an agent for Poulsens, Rainbow Park Nurseries has introduced the spectacular Parade, Towne and Country, and Castle series of roses to the New Zealand market.
