Exotic Trees > Podocarpus macrophyllus
The japanese Yew Pine is a relative of our own Totara and will grow into a handsome specimen tree over time. Growth is quite slow and the tree has a dense bushy pyramidal habit when young . new foliage emerges pale green in the spring changing to a rich dark green by summer.
Podocarpus macrophyllus tolerates a wide range of growing conditions and soil types and will maintain its deep green lush foliage all year without fuss. The yew pine has long been prized as a topiary subject and resoponds well to trimming or shaping.
These trees are great as a specimen feature tree or street tree where space allows. They can be trimmed as a hedge or screen, or shaped into topiary forms with a little judicious pruning.
