Bubbles is a stunning hybrid Michelia raised here in New Zealand and now popular all over the world. It forms a shapely small tree with fresh green foliage and small white scented flowers emerging from golden brown fury buds in late winter
Michelias like a rich soil with plenty of organic matter. Stake well until established and provide plenty of mulch to prevent the roots drying out during the summer months. A light prune after flowering keeps the tree compact and in shape.
Michelia Bubbles makes an ideal specimen tree, or it can be used as an informal hedge . Grown on clear tall slender stems it will make an interesting pleached or stilt hedge.
Michelia x Bubbles was bred by the late Os Blumhardt of Koromiko nurseries in Whangarei. He was also responsible for the breeding and introduction of many other world-renowned plants such as Magnolia Star Wars and Vireya Tropic Glow.
