> Alnus glutinosa Imperialis
Alnus glutinosa Imperialis is one of the toughest most versatile trees around yet it remains relatively unknown. This Alder forms a narrow pyramidal tree that tolerates dry or wet soil once established. Its very fine lacy foliage appears very early in the spring and is surprisingly robust even in windy sites.
This Imperial Alder is ideal as a specimen street tree in narrow berms or looks superb planted in groups or groves. Use it against tall structures to soften or as a vertical accent in the landscape. It can be trimmed to form a narrow dense hedge or shelter belt and as a topiary into classical lollipop forms.
