The Italian Alder has long been prized as a hardy shelter belt tree but it is equally useful as a specimen tree. It pyramidal habit and ability to grow in almost any soil conditions make it a go to tree for difficult sites. Alnus cordata has a bright glossy green foliage that persists long after other deciduous trees have lost their leaves.
The Italian Alder grows rapidly to form a hedge, screen or shelter. It is an ideal species to topiary and pleach and makes a great manageable street tree for subdivisions and carparks.
