This selected form of Pseodopanax lessonii forms a lush green mound up to 3m in diameter. Growth is compact and always maintains its fresh glossy dark green appearance.
Plant Care
Protect from frost when young and plant in organically rich free draining soil and Pseudopanax Cyril Watson will grow trouble free for years. If necessary you can either trim regularly or prune hard every few years to maintain shape and form. Fed and watered well, this native makes an excellent large tub specimen
Application
Psuedopanax Cyril Watson can be used as a low broad hedge or as a specimen shrub, screen , or tub plant. As a lush green wind shelter for more delicate colourful plants in mixed shrub beds.
History
Pseudopanax lessonii is extremely variable from seed and hybridizes naturally with other members of this genus. This has led to many different foliage forms, growth habits and leaf colours being offered for sale. This particular selection was named after Cyril Watson (a sales manager at Duncan and Davies world renowned nursery in New Plymouth) who recognized its potential and helped introduced it to the gardening public.
