> Cordyline australis Midnight Star
Few native trees have as many variations of foliage colour as the Cabbage Tree and Midnight Star is one of the best selections to date. Broad dark purple foliage slightly drooping at the tips and a rapid growth rate make Midnight Star an easy choice for many landscape situations.
Like all Cordylines, Midnight Star is happy in most soil types. Larger specimens should be staked well at planting and an application of a good insecticide every now and then will help keep away the native caterpillars that can make them look untidy. Don’t be frightened to cut the Cordyline back if it becomes too tall. Fresh new growth almost always will sprout from the cut trunks.
Plant Midnight Star as a specimen or use it as a pot or tub plant on a sunny patio. It makes a great upright statement in narrow or confined spaces and looks great against a green background.
Cordylines are a genus of trees and shrubs found throughout the South West Pacific and India and are close relatives of other great architectural species such as Agave, Yucca and Dracaena.
